What is it? PRP is a microneedling session using your own platelet rich plasma to regenerate beyond the surface of the skin to boost the effects of microneedling. PRP can also be injected into problem areas for improving volume loss or under-eye circles, diminish scaring and even hair regrowth.
How does it work? Platelets normally stay in the blood vessels. When platelets are introduced into the skin by microneedling or injections (hair or facelift) they change shape and send a signal to jump start the healing or growth process. They do this by traveling along existing collagen fibers, binding to fibrin proteins and other platelets. These stimulate growth factor and tissue regeneration including collagen and elastin.
What is treatment like? During a treatment you will be assessed and the process explained based on your needs. You will apply numbing cream to your face and your blood will be drawn. The tube of blood is spun in a centrifuge to separate red cells from the PRP. The PRP is then applied by microneedling.
What is the downtime? After the session you may have redness or swelling for about 12-24 hours. You will leave the office with a product on your skin that you will leave on until the following morning. After you wash up the next morning you will be good to go. Enjoy the afterglow.
When will I see results? You will immediately notice a difference in texture. Regrowth and deeper results will take longer. Results start of occur after 30-60 days but will continue beyond that. Some treatments like hair regrowth take multiple sessions and up to 90 days to become noticeable. The good news is the effects continue long after treatment.
Is it safe? PRP has been safely used in many medical treatments for decades. Because it is your own blood there is no risk of allergy or adverse reaction.
